New GI Bill

I may be eligible to attend MCC using VA Benefits. Who do I contact for this information?

Mesa Community College is one of the largest community college in the country. We are proud to assist any student who may be entitled to receive Veterans Educational Benefits. Contact the Veterans Office at MCC at 480-461-7425 or stop by for assistance.

What do I need to do to get my educational benefits started at MCC?

The first step would be to apply for admissions to the College. Once you have applied for admissions, stop by the Veterans Office at MCC. Not only do we assist you with your education benefits, we offer one stop service, we will advise, register and assist you with your financial aid.

Do I need to bring any paperwork with me to the office?

If a student is a veteran and eligible for Ch. 30, Montgomery G.I. Bill, they would bring their member 4 copy of the DD-214. If they are eligible for Ch. 1606, Montgomery G. I. Bill – Reservists/National Guardsmen, they would need a Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE), DD-2384 form. This form may be picked up from their units Educational Officer. If they are eligible for 1607: Reserve Educational Assistance Program, they would need their orders calling them to active duty and their DD214 (member 4 copy) when released from active duty.

How do I find out if I have any benefits left?

How long does it take to receive my educational benefits?

Department of Veteran Affairs advises that it usually takes about 4 weeks to get your benefits started.

What do I do after I have submitted my paperwork?

In order to receive your benefits, Chapter 30, & 1606 must call the VA, the last day of the month. If you don't call you will not receive a payment. Chapter 35 & 1607 will receive payment around the 1st of the month.

What happens if the VA does not acknowledge my Kicker or College Fund?

You must provide a receipt of payment for the kicker. Bring it to our office and we will submit it to the VA. If you have signed up for the College Fund, bring all documents to our office so we can send the paperwork to the VA.

What happens if I drop a class?

Please drop by our office before you drop a class. If you have a good reason as to why you need to drop the class, we need to report that to the VA other wise they may ask for all the money back that was received for that class from the first day of school.

Does VA pay for a tutor? If so how do I obtain a tutor?

Yes, you are entitled to receive $100 a month for tutoring. Remember the rule though, you are only entitled to receive $1200 throughout the time you are using your benefits.

It is your responsibility to find a tutor. We may have a list of tutors in our office. In order for your tutor to receive payment, you must complete the proper forms. Please stop by the Veterans Office to receive those documents.
