This page contains a listing of private scholarship sources that have available funding for students. Here, you can download and print an application or hyperlink to the designated scholarship donor webpage. As a public service, we have listed them here with a brief description of their criteria.
Scholarships listed on this page are private foundations and/or external community organization applications. MCC and Student Financial Services can not be held responsible for the accuracy of the information contained therein, nor the criteria and award parameters of any school funding.
The web links, downloads, and phone numbers are provided for you to attain a scholarship application. Completed scholarship applications will need to be returned (by U.S. mail) or delivered in person to each donor respectively (please read application instructions carefully) . This scholarship is dedicated to assist five outstanding high school graduates in Arizona attend college. This scholarship is open to entering freshmen students attending Arizona universities and community colleges. This is a one time award in the amount of $1,000.*
Application Deadline - Open until filled.
Total Scholarship Funds - $5,000
Individual Awards - $1,000
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be Hispanic or of Hispanic descent.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-55.1
- Must be an Arizona resident.
- Must be (or plan to be) enrolled full-time as an undergraduate student in Arizona for the upcoming academic year.
- Must have earned and maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average of no less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
AAA is seeking applicants for 2009 scholarships. The scholarship is open to entering freshmen students living in Arizona and attending an accredited college or university in Arizona. Scholarship applications for the 2009-2010 academic year are currently available online. The deadline to submit an application is March 31, 2009. Alumni Association Scholarship
Deadline July 16, 2009
- Applicants must be Arizonan residents as classified by MCC Admissions Office or be related to an alumna/us of MCC
- Must have financial need
- Must have clear direction of academic and career goals
- Must submit transcripts from all colleges attended, including MC
- Must provide a list of activities, leadership and community service projects you’ve been involved in
- Must list your work experience
- Must write a letter (typed, not to exceed 300 words) describing:
- Your financial need
- Your academic goals
- Your career goals

Dougherty Foundation
The Dougherty Foundation is named for the late M.J.G. Dougherty and Bess Dougherty, his wife. Together, they placed their estate in trust for the education of qualified students with financial need. The Dougherty Foundation has scholarship and loan programs for Arizona students in both undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs.
Deadline: June 15, 2009 for 2009‐2010 academic year.
8 recipients receive one $1,000 (full-time) award.
6 ‐ 8 credits ‐ $250 per semester
9 ‐ 11 credits ‐ $375 per semester
12 + credits ‐ $500 per semester
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen
- Applicant must be an Arizona Resident Must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
- Minimum enrollment of 6 credit hours per semester
- Cumulative GPA must be 3.0 or higher

Grand Canyon University Incoming Transfer Student Scholarships
All recipients must:
- Have completed a Grand Canyon University (GCU) Admissions Application
- Submit final official transcripts by 08/01/2009
- Be registered full-time for the Fall and Spring semesters (12+ credits)

- Incoming minimum GPA 3.5
- Maintain minimum GPA 3.3 and full-time enrollment at GCU
Provost's Scholarship ($2,500 per semester)
- Incoming minimum GPA 3.25
- Maintain minimum GPA 3.20 and full-time enrollment at GCU
Dean's Scholarship ($1,500 per semester)
- Incoming minimum GPA 3.0
- Maintain minimum GPA 3.0 and full-time enrollment at GCU
H. E. Hendrix Scholarship - For College Students
This scholarship is for Education majors who are currently enrolled full-time in college.
Application Deadline: Pending
Total Scholarship Funds: $1000.00
Individual Awards: 19 recipients receive one $1,000.00 award
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be majoring in Education
- Must be enrolled/or plan to enroll at least half-time in education curricula
- Must have completed 12 credit hours at MCC with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
- No withdrawals (W) on transcripts

H. E. Hendrix Scholarship - For High School Seniors
This scholarship is for High School Seniors majoring in Education with a signed program of study from the MCC Education Department advisor attached.

Total Scholarship Funds: $2000.00
Individual Awards: 4 recipients receive one $2,000 award
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be majoring in Education with a signed program of study from the MCC Education Department advisor attached.
- Students must be a graduating senior from a Mesa or Tempe high school.
- Must be enrolled/or plan to enroll full time in education curricula.
- Must have earned a minimum 2.5 cumulative high school grade point average (GPA).
- Renewal of the scholarship for recipients is automatic for the second year provided the student meets the following criteria:
- A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better;
- Continued full-time enrollment in an education-related curricula; and
- Completion and passing grades in all courses taken the previous year (including summer school).

Jacobsen Scholarship Fund
Deadlines:
Fall 2009: May 31, 2009
Spring 2010: October 15, 2009
- Must be an active and worthy member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
- Must be an U.S. citizen
- Must have a minimum GPA of 2.75
- Must be enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, full-time in an accredited post-secondary institution.
- Must provide evidence of financial need by completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
- Must submit a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR).
- Must submit two letters of recommendation and the recommendation contact form.
- Must submit complete academic transcripts (high school transcripts accepted for incoming Freshmen)
- Must show evidence of ability to succeed in the post-secondary education environment.
- Must include letter of acceptance from Institution (applies to incoming Freshmen and college transfer students).
- Must submit an Application Letter.

Neely Scholarship
Deadline: June 15, 2009
12 receipients receive $2,200 per year (for full-time* - $1,100 per semester)
(*award will be prorated if enrolled less than full-time)
Eligibilty Criteria:
- Preference Given To (But Not Limited To) Single Parent or Single Independent Students
- Applicant must be a U.S. citizen
- Applicant must be an Arizona resident
- Have and maintain a semester and cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better
- 6 credit hour minimum enrollment at Mesa Community College
- Demonstrated financial need (student must complete FAFSA)

Service Learning Scholarship
Application Deadline: June 1, 2009 5:00 PM
Total Scholarship Funds: $500.00
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be incoming or continuing community college students planning to pursue their education at Mesa Community College.
- Incoming high school graduates need to demonstrate a significant service experience during high school.
- Current MCC students must have participated in at least one service-learning experience.
- Nomination letter must accompany application from organization that will validate your service.
- All funds must be used at Mesa Community College for tuition and books in the fall 2009.
- All recipients MUST attend reception in August 2009 to receive your scholarship.

Helping Hands for Single Mom's
- Must be in a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester.
- Must maintain a 2.5 GPA.
- Must have at least one child under the age of 11.
- Must not be living with a domestic partner

Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation Scholarships

American Indian Services Scholarship (Deadline: Varies -see application)
- Must be enrolled in a university, college, junior college or technical school
- Must be one-quarter (1/4), or more, Native American Blood
- Must be an undergraduate student with no more than 150 semester credits or 210 quarter credits
- Must be full-time or part-time status - excluding non-credit courses
- Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.25

Americorps Scholarship (Deadline: Ongoing)
- Must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien
- Must be at least 17 years of age
- Must have a high school diploma, GED or work to obtain one within your year of service
- Must attend an orientation session to be considered for the education award (held weekly)
- Must commit to a minimum of 300 hours of community service hours in one of three different goal areas: Education Services, Homeland Security-Public Health and Safety, or Community Strengthening Volunteer Activities
- Participants earn a minimum $1000 educational award to pay for college expenses

Arizona Kidney Foundation Bidstrup Scholarship (Deadline: Must apply each semester)
- Must have a diagnosis of end-stage renal disease
- Must be involved in a continuous treatment program (e.g., dialysis, transplant)
- Must be a Arizona Resident
- Requires a referral by a renal social worker or dietitian
- Determined assistance from other resources not available
- Completion of a financial application within the past 180 days

Arizona National Livestock Show Scholarship (Applications deadlines: March 15 & October 15)
- Must have completed high school graduation
- Must be currently taking at least 12 hours at a college or university

Grand Canyon University Scholarship: Online or Campus (Deadline Varies)
- Must have completed an associate's degree or have 60 or more transferable credits
- Enroll in a bachelor degree program at GCU to become eligible for a $2000 scholarship toward your tuition ($500 per semester for four consecutive semesters)
- Enroll as a full time student (12 credits per semester) throughout your program as indicated in the university catalog.
- Must submit complete academic college transcripts and high school transcripts.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund (Deadline: Pending)
- Be of Hispanic heritage

- Must have applied for federal financial aid

Indian Health Career Scholarship (Deadlines: July 15th and November 15th)
- Must be in a student program for their health career of health related fields of study
- Must be American Indian or Alaskan Native with documentation of tribal enrollment
- First priority is to the Arizona Indians residing in Arizona
- Must be enrolled and accepted in an institution of higher learning

MCC President's Scholarship (Deadline: Ongoing)
- Must have graduated from a high school located in Maricopa County
- Must verify rank in the top 15% of his/her NCA-accredited Maricopa County high school class in the sixth, seventh or eighth semester OR achieve specific scores on the ASSET Placement Test (see guidelines page for acceptable scores)
- Must enroll at MCC within one academic year following high school graduation without having attended another accredited college or university before enrolling in a Maricopa Community College

MCC Honors Dept. Fee Award Scholarship (Deadline: Ongoing)
- Must have at least a 3.25 Grade Point Average and have completed 12 credit hours of 100 Level classes (or above) completed at one or any combination of Maricopa Community Colleges

Rotary Vocational Fund of Arizona Scholarship (Deadline: Pending)
- The Mesa Baseline Rotary Club is a proud partner with The Rotary Vocational Fund of Arizona, Inc. The Baseline Club members have donated funds as wells as numerous hours to assist the Vocational Fund of Arizona. The Baseline Club has worked with Mesa Community College for several years to make scholarship funds available to students that demonstrate specific needs and are enrolled in specific vocational education programs
- Scholarship funds are available each semester to qualifying students. The qualifying process starts in the Advising/Counseling office to confirm if your program is a vocational program
- The following are examples of qualifying vocational programs: Nursing, Fire Science, EMT, Mortuary Science, Construction, and Automotive Performance Technology
