Why distance learning?
Distance learning has become increasingly
popular because of its convenience and flexibility. It
eliminates a major barrier that keeps many adults from
advancing their education -- fitting campus-based classes
into their busy schedules.
Here at MCC, most distance learning
courses are offered via the Internet. Internet courses
cover the same material with the same transfer potential
as courses offered at a campus; the difference is in the
way they are delivered. The requirements differ between
courses. Many courses require a textbook. Some have lab
requirements, and there may also be required audio tapes,
video tapes, or CD-ROMs.
Are you ready for distance learning?
Take the
Distance Learning Survey
to see if online courses are right for you.
Before you spend time, effort, and money on
a distance learning course, it's important that
you determine whether or not you have the skills,
study habits, and access to computers (equipment and
software) that will let you succeed.
The MCC Online Office has created an
orientation to help you determine your readiness
to take an online course at MCC and to introduce
you to the various tools you might be using if
you enroll in an online course. The orientation
is divided into four modules.
Orientation
You may

or select a link below to go directly to
a particular module:
- Who should take a distance learning course?
- Do I have the study skills and self-motivation to succeed in an on-line class?
- What computer skills do I need? What are the technological and software requirements?
- How do I register for a class-and then what do I do?
