Life Science

The Life Science Department offers a variety of courses to satisfy the needs of MCC students. Most of our courses satisfy natural science requirements for various degrees here and at other institutions and are easily transferred. Several courses prepare students for prehealth professional programs or the revolutionary, new field of biotechnology. And finally, some of our courses are designed for biology majors who are planning to transfer to a four-year institution.

Biology Anatomy & Physiology

The Anatomy and Physiology Program at Mesa Community College offers courses that satisfy either general laboratory science requirements or are preparatory for many health professional programs, including nursing. The structure and function of all of the systems of the human body are studied. Examples of the systems covered are skin, muscles, bones, nervous system, endocrine system, heart, lungs, kidneys, digestive system, and reproductive system.
Biology Biology

Biology is the study of life and the application of the scientific method. A large variety of Biology courses are offered from Bio 100 for non-biology majors to Environmental Biology for a more focused approach. The methods of scientific inquiry and behavior of matter and energy in biological systems are explored in all courses.
BiotechnolyBiotechnology

Biotechnology is often used to refer to genetic engineering technology of the 21st century. This general description encompasses a wide range and history of procedures for modifying biological organisms according to the needs of humanity, going back to the initial modifications of native plants into improved food crops through artificial selection and hybridization. The ethical issues of Biotechnology are also covered.
Marine Biology Marine Biology

This is a four hour credit Marine Biology course designed for the non-major. There are no prerequisites. It is a laboratory science and satisfies the SG (General Science) requirement at ASU. Topics include: History of Marine Biology, Sea Floor Geology and Ecology of ocean ecosystems such as the coral reef, estuary and kelp beds.
