Fire Science & EMT
On behalf of Fire Science & EMT, we would like to welcome you to another exciting year at Mesa Community College. This web site is designed to give you an overview of the programs and courses offered within our department and to keep you updated on noteworthy news.
The Connector Program was developed in 1998 as a partnership between Mesa Community College and the Mesa Fire Department. The goal of this partnership was to design and implement a program as a resource for the Mesa Fire Department as well as a service learning site for Mesa Community College students.
CPAT - Candidate Physical Activity TestThe job of a fire fighter is one of the most physically demanding jobs in North America. It requires high levels of cardiopulmonary endurance, muscular strength and muscular endurance. The Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) consists of critical physical tasks that simulate actual job duties on the fireground.
EMTPeople's lives often depend on the quick reaction and competent care of emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics. Incidents as varied as automobile accidents, heart attacks, slips and falls, childbirth, and gunshot wounds all require immediate medical attention. EMTs and paramedics provide this vital service as they care for and transport the sick or injured to a medical facility.
Fire AcademyThe Fire Academy course covers fire fighting skills, equipment, administrative policies, fire department operations and personnel policies. Accredited through International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), a Firefighter I & II Certificate is earned upon successful completion of course curriculum and practical skills assessments. Certificates are sanctioned through the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Arizona State Fire Marshall. The Fire Academy is a 16 week, semester long course.
