Applied Science
On behalf of Applied Science department, we would like to welcome you to another exciting year at Mesa Community College. This web site is designed to give you an overview of the programs and courses offered within our department and to keep you updated on noteworthy news.
Agribusiness We have assembled what we think is the best Agribusiness/Urban Horticulture design program anywhere. Our curriculum is fully transferrable as a two year associates in Agribusiness (AAS) or Urban Horticulture (AAS). We also offer several certificates of completion in Landscape Aide, Landscape Specialist, and Pest Management Aide.
Culinary StudiesCulinary students develop skills in all facets of the food service industry. Training is provided in culinary arts (quantity cooking), commercial baking and dining room and banquet service through a hands-on approach.
Dental HygieneMesa Community College’s Dental Hygiene, which is one of our newest programs, offers a rigorous and intensive scientific oriented program. The graduates are awarded an Associate in Applied Science degree in Dental Hygiene. Graduates are eligible to take the written and clinical exams necessary to obtain Arizona state licensure.
Mortuary ScienceThe Mortuary Science program was started as part of Mesa Community College's ever expanding academic services in the fall of 1995. Dr. Thomas Taggart was its founding department chair and has continued to improve and expand the program into what it is today. The first graduating class of 1997 met in an adjacent building until the Mortuary Science building,(which was the old parachute folding building for Williams Air Force Base), was completed in the spring of 1997. In 2005 a crematory was added to the facility to teach students the proper procedures in the cremation process. The Mortuary Science program has had over 250 graduates, many of whom are very active in the funeral industry today.
Nutrition / DieteticsWhether you are preparing for a career in the field of dietetics or if you are interested in nutrition for personal enrichment, we feel you will enjoy the diverse classes we offer.
Urban HorticultureWe have assembled what we think is the best Agribusiness/Urban Horticulture design program anywhere. Our curriculum is fully transferrable as a two year associates in Agribusiness (AAS) or Urban Horticulture (AAS). We also offer several certificates of completion in Landscape Aide, Landscape Specialist, and Pest Management Aide.
Veterinary TechnologyWe have assembled what we think will soon be the premier Veterinary Technology program in Arizona. We are one of only two Community College Veterinary Technology programs in the State of Arizona, and are working toward accreditation by the American Veterinary Medical Association.
