Firearms Courses

AJS 151 Firearms I

Firearms I is offered several times during the Fall and Spring Semesters.  The classes meet on the week-end and require a Saturday and Sunday to receive 1 hour of college credit. Students receive 1 and a half days of classroom instruction and a half a day of live fire. The following subject matter is covered:

  • Legal and Civil Liability
  • Firearm Safety
  • Weapon Care and Maintenance
  • Mental Conditioning for the use of Deadly Force
  • Use of Deadly Force and Justification
  • Interfacing with Law Enforcement

    * This course is approved by the Arizona Department of Public Safety as meeting the training requirement necessary to obtain an Arizona Concealed Weapons Permit.  To obtain the concealed weapons permit students must be 21 years of age.  For more information on Carrying a Concealed Weapon visit the AZ Department of Public safety Website at: www.dps.state.az.us  

AJS 153 Firearms II/Handguns

Firearms II is an advanced familiarization with handguns. The classes meet on week-ends and require a Saturday and Sunday to receive 1 credit of college credit. Students receive 1 and a half days of classroom instruction and a half day of live fire.  The following subject matter is covered:

  • Handgun Use
  • Legal and Civil Liability
  • Safety factors
  • Major Components of Weapons and Ammunition
  • Comparison of Single and Double Action Firing
  • Cleaning of the weapon
