Program Goals:

The Program strives to:

  1. Comprehensively prepare competent individuals in the profession of Dental Hygiene.
  2. Establish a curriculum that meets the needs of the dental community and a culturally diverse community at large.
  3. Assist students in the process of internalizing life-long learning and a commitment to professional growth and development.

For Your Information

  1. Up to 20 full time students will be admitted each Fall semester into MCC's 2 year Program.
  2. The learning process in Dental Hygiene requires that each student be a patient for another student in the Program.
  3. Students are responsible for the recruitment of patients for their clinical experiences.
  4. Students must achieve at minimum a letter grade of "C"(2.0) in each course in the Dental Hygiene curriculum in order to continue in the Program.
  5. Completion of the Program does not guarantee licensure as a dental hygienist.
  6. The practice of Dental Hygiene requires the repetitive use of the arm and wrist as well as long hours of sitting.
  7. Information on bloodborne and infectious disease policies is available from the Program Director upon request.
  8. Admission and continuation in the Program is contingent upon:
    • Continuous CPR Healthcare Provider certification
    • Physical, dental and vision examinations with no evidence of physical or psychiatric conditions which could be hazardous to the safety of self or others.
    • Up-to-date immunization records, including Hepatitis B vaccination
  9. Advanced placement in the Program may be available if:
    • The Program has a vacancy
    • Advanced placement is requested by the applicant
    • The applicant meets minimum application criteria
    • Determination of proper placement can be made by the Program Director or their designee.
