This group of movers and shakers is known as the C-A-N-D-O Committee. They CAN DO it all!
The Social Committee is responsible for the fall picnic, potluck lunches, the Christmas Party, decorating
for Halloween and other holidays, and for special occasions including Birthdays, Boss’s Day and
Administrative Professional’s Day. In the past year, the CANDO’ers have planned a bicycle tour
of Tempe, a hike in the Superstitions, golf outings and a bowling party. If you have ideas for a
departmental activity, contact any member of the Social Committee and see what they CANDO!

Nicki Maines joined the department this semester after teaching at Scottsdale CC,
the University of Advancing Technology and with several private companies. She is a graduate of
Towson University in Maryland (BS, Economics and Finance) and received her MBA from the
University of Baltimore. Nicki teaches BPC, CIS and ACC classes.
Angeline Surbur is in her 2nd year as a full-time faculty member. She previously taught part-time at MCC for 4 years. Angie served as the MCC representative to the Adjunct Faculty Association and also as an officer in the district-wide AFA organization. She is a graduate of the University of Maryland and earned her Masters in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. She teaches CIS and BPC classes and serves as the coordinator for short term courses.
Otis White is the newest member of the CANDO team. He is currently serving a one semester teaching assignment. Otis is a graduate of the University of Richmond with a BA in Human Resources, and earned his MBA from Western International University in International Business. He also completed post-graduate work at ASU in Cognitive Psychology. He has taught a variety of classes in Business, Management, Quality, Statistics and Quantitative Analysis. In addition to MCC, Otis has taught at ASU, PVCC and Rio Salado CC.
Colleen Norris has worked in the Business Dept for 13 years, the past 5 years as the Administrative Secretary. Colleen is a native Arizonan and a graduate of Mesa Westwood High. She studied Nursing at Maricopa Tech (now Gateway CC) and worked at Mesa Lutheran Hospital. She later studied at MCC and graduated with an AA degree in Office Automation. Last year, Colleen was awarded the PSA Award of Outstanding Professional Excellence for her dedication and quality service. Colleen is the “permanent” member of the Social Committee and holds it all together.
Dave Harris is in his 2nd year as a full-time faculty member. An Air Force veteran and Ohio native, Dave previously taught full-time in the ASU Business College in addition to part-time work at Gateway CC, Paradise Valley CC, University of Phoenix and Western International University. Dave is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University (BA, Physics and Pre-Engineering) and received an MBA from ASU. He teaches BPC and CIS classes.
