A syllabus represents a contract between the instructor and students.
A good syllabus should at minimal include the following.
- Syllabus Requirements:
- Instructor's name, email address, office hours, lab hours, and message phone
- Business Department office phone, location, and hours
- Course prefix, number, and section (example: ACC230 section 1234)
- Course description and competencies (available online - see link below)
- List the textbooks as required and be sure to use them for assignments
- List all course materials that will be needed
- Student Id is required to enter computer lab
- Detailed course schedule
- List reading assignments from required textbooks
- List homework assignments with due dates and associated points
- Exam dates and associated points
- Project due dates and associated points
- Attendance/Withdrawal policies (refer to MCC policies in MCC Catalog)
- Exam and grading policies
Include policies for makeup exams, in class assignments, and late assignments.
- Statement on academic honesty
- Statement on disruptive behavior
- Statement on copyright regulation
- Statement on MCCD's Computer Usage Policy
- Statement on MCCD's Sexual Harassment Policy
- Statement offering reasonable accommodations for disable students
- Statement on the Learning Enhancement Center in Library which offers tutoring
- For computer classes include the hours for Computer Lab
- Disclaimer statement giving the instructor the right to make changes in the course schedule as needed.

- No Food or Beverages:
Food and beverages are NOT permitted in the classrooms and labs.
- Alcoholic Beverages are not permitted on campus. Smoking is permitted only in identified areas.
All firearms, explosives, knives or instruments that can be construed as dangerous weapons are prohibited on campus.
- Legal Issues:
Many actions faculty take can have legal ramifications. The District has developed policies on
many topics including:
- Sexual Harassment (for both students and employees)
- General guidelines regarding AIDS
- Copyright Policy
- Rights of Students Due Process Procedures
- Family Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA)
