Open-Entry classes provide students with a convenient and flexible way to take college credits without traditional classroom instruction. Students can work at their own pace on business or personal computer applications online, at home or in an open computer lab environment. There are no regularly scheduled classes or lectures.
What is the advantage of taking Open Entry Classes? The advantage of Open Entry is that you don’t have to wait until the next semester to start another class. If you finish a class, you may enroll in another class the following Monday. You do not have to wait until the next semester to enroll.
How do I sign up for Open Entry classes? Open Entry classes are not semester based which means that you can enroll anytime. You will receive a specific start date and end date to complete your assignments. Almost every Monday is a new start date. http://www.mesacc.edu/enroll/
May I take more than one class at a time? We recommend that you take one class at a time. Since Open Entry is not semester based, you can enroll in one Open Entry class and as soon as you finish, you can enroll in another class and receive a new start date and end date in the same semester.
What are the computer requirements for working at home?

The first step is to enroll in your class. You will need to create an MCC mail account and we recommend that you take the WebCT tutorial and become familiar with how the course tool works. Students will receive additional startup information via postal mail after they have enrolled.
How much time do I have to complete my class?
You can complete an Open Entry class as quickly as you can do the work. However, it is important to note that even though you may complete the class early, you must complete the required work by your assigned end date.
If you need help, you can email the Open Entry Team for online assistance. You may also make an appointment with any member of the Open Entry team.
Are there computer labs on campus where I can do my work? The MultiUse Computer lab is available to Open Entry students at the Southern/Dobson campus in building #40, room BA1S. If you are working at the Red Mountain campus (Power Road East of McKellips), there is a lab in the Library.
All of our Open Entry classes use a textbook except for CIS131AA, "Doing Business on the Internet".
How are assignments submitted? Open Entry uses WebCT as our online course management tool. All of your assignments, quizzes and final projects are in WebCT. You do not have to come to campus if you are taking Open Entry classes.
All testing for Open Entry classes is online in WebCT. You do not have to come to the campus.
How can I be successful in my Open Entry class? In the virtual classroom, communication is often written, so it is critical that students feel comfortable in expressing themselves in writing. You must be able to communicate through writing. Be self-motivated & self-disciplined - with the freedom and flexibility of the online environment comes responsibility. The online process takes a real commitment and discipline to keep up with the flow of the process. The online learning process is normally accelerated and requires commitment on the student's part. Staying up with the class and completing all work on time is vital. The best way to keep up with the required assignments and quizzes and complete on time is to avoid procrastination.
What skills are required to take an Open Entry class? To successfully complete an Open Entry class, you will need some basic computer skills.
