There are several certification tracks, but as a CIW Authorized Academic Partner (AAP)
Mesa Community College (MCC) currently offers courses to help prepare students for:
CIW Associate certification - Foundations Exam
CIW Professional Site Designer certification - Site Designer Exam
CIW Professional E-Commerce Designer certification - E-Commerce Designer Exam
CIW Master Web Site Designer certification
Through the academic partnership, MCC is able to offer discounts on the exam fees.
CIW Associate certification
The Foundations Exam must be passed to become a certified CIW Associate. This
exam covers basic hands-on skills and knowledge that all Internet professionals
are expected to understand and use. Foundation skills include basic knowledge
of Internet technologies, networks, and Web authoring using HTML. Successful
completion of the Foundations Exam is required before moving on to the Professional
exams.
To help prepare for the Foundations Exam take the following MCC courses:
MCC Recommended Courses:
- CIS105 Survey of Computer Information Systems
- CIS133DA Internet/Web Development Level I
- CIS233DA Internet/Web Development Level II
- CIS298AC Special Projects - Prepare for Exam
- After completing these courses, student still need to
register, take, and pass the CIW exam to obtain the CIW certification.
- Students completing these courses may also be
eligible for an MCC Certificate of Completion in
Web Designer Assistant.
CIW Professional Site Designer certification - Site Designer Exam
The Foundations Exam and another specific job-role exam must be passed to become
a certified CIW Professional. To become a certified Professional Site Designer, the
Site Designer Exam must be passed. This exam validates human-factor principles in designing,
implementing and maintaining hypertext-based Web sites using authoring and scripting languages,
content creation and management tools, and digital media tools.
To help prepare for the Site Designer Exam take the following MCC courses:

- CIS120DF Adobe Photoshop
- CIS166AA Introduction to JavaScript
- CIS243AD Internet/Web Dev Lvl III w/Macromedia Suite
- After completing these courses, student still need to
register, take, and pass the CIW exam to obtain the CIW certification.
- Students completing these courses may also be
eligible for an MCC Certificate of Completion in
Web Designer.
CIW Professional E-Commerce Designer certification - E-Commerce Designer Exam
The Foundations Exam and another specific job-role exam must be passed to become
a certified CIW Professional. To become a certified Professional E-Commerce Designer, the
E-Commerce Designer Exam must be passed. This exam focuses on standards, technologies and practices
for both business-to-business and business-to-consumer e-commerce models.
This certification addresses relationships among marketing, promotion,
customer service, user interaction, purchasing methods and secure transactions
by using SSL and SET, payment gateways, inventory control, shipping and order
information, and site performance testing and evaluation.
To help prepare for the E-Commerce Designer Exam take the following MCC courses:

- After completing these courses, student still need to
register, take, and pass the CIW exam to obtain the CIW certification.

CIW Master Web Site Designer certification
To become a certified CIW Master Web Site Designer, the
Site Designer Exam and E-Commerce Designer Exam must be passed.
