CIS105 Data Files - Office 2007
|
The files required to complete the labs for CIS105 are available on the Student Resource CD
included with the textbook and on the Internet. The files can be downloaded from here
(www.mc.maricopa.edu/dept/d07/cis105/), or from the publisher's website,
Course Technology (www.course.com). At
the publisher's website search for the textbook's ISBN (1418860476), then click on Download Student Files.
The instructions to download from the publisher's website are posted at the
publisher's website and are also printed in the back cover of
the required textbook, Illustrated Series Microsoft Office 2007 - Windows XP Edition.
Instructions:
-
In order to save the data files, you will need a personal storage device. A USB 128MB or larger Flash Drive
is required to fit all of the files.
-
A 3.5" floppy disk can NOT be used because the all the required files will not fit.
-
Label your storage device with your name and instructor's name.
In addition, consider creating
a folder on the storage device with your name and one with your instructor's name.
Having the names will increase the chances of having the device returned to you if it is lost.
-
The recommended browser to download the data files is Internet Explorer.
-
Click on 2007_data_files.exe to begin the archive
download (file size is 6 MB).

-
In the File Download dialog box, click on Save to save the file to your storage device.
-
In the save dialog box, navigate to the drive assigned to your storage device.
In computer lab and classrooms, USB drives are usually assigned the letter E: or the next available letter.
-
Note/record the path of where the file is being saved, because you will need to navigate back to this
location using Windows Explorer.
Click on Save to save the file.
-
Using Windows Explorer, navigate to where the files were saved.
Double-click on 2007_data_files.exe to begin the extraction process.
If a Security Warning message is displayed, click on Run.
The default unzip location is C:\Course Technology\. This needs to be changed to the
flash drive location. Use the Browse button to find your flash drive (E:\).
Click on Unzip.
140 files (19 MB) should be unzipped successfully.
Click on Close to exit the WinZip Self-Extractor.
The files are expanded by default into a folder named 86047-6d (textbook's ISBN).
Consider renaming the folder to something more meaningful such as CIS105.
-
After extracting the files, delete 2007_data_files.exe from your storage device.
-
To prevent damaging the USB drive, be sure to use the Safely Remove Hardware option
before pulling out the USB drive.
-
Keep your storage device in a safe and cool place to prevent lost of data.
-
If most of the lab work will be completed at home, students
should download all of the files using the steps listed above at home.
The files should be downloaded to the C: drive.
