OUR ATHLETIC MISSION

It is said that Sports are a microcosm of Society, and Athletics impacts the educational experience in ways nothing else can. Higher education is preparation for life - and athletics is part of that, as is the study of literature, science, mathematics and theater. A strong mind, fortitude, fair play - and performing under pressure are at the heart of collegiate athletics and are intrinsic in the educational experience and to the mission of this institution.

Our mission is to provide opportunities for student athletes to achieve at the highest levels in the classroom and on the playing fields and to experience personal growth. We expect our athletic program to reflect the same standards of excellence and integrity that characterize the instructional and public service activities of this College. We are a unifying force on the campus community and the catalyst in creating a source of pride and support among our external constituencies.

Our focus within the Athletics Department is finding ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things. The quality coaching staff, trainers, equipment managers, and administrators in the department understand what it takes to run a great program. In turn, when you build a great program, the best people have a way of finding you.

OUR ATHLETIC LEGACY

Our first athletic teams took to the field in 1966. In 1968, we became a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association which enables us to compete at the national level. We also belong to the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference and the Western States Football League, two of the most competitive junior college leagues in the nation. Track won our first national championship in 1968, and we?ve since added another 17 in six different sports.
  • Our football team has played in seven bowl games.
  • Had more than 300 of our student-athletes receive All-American recognition.
  • Had 85 Academic All-Americans.
  • Many of our athletes have gone on to play professionally.
  • And 79% of our participants go on to compete at four-year colleges and universities.
